Zev did not often wear disguises. He saw no need. After all, his victims ended up dead by the time he was finished with them, removing any chance of them remembering his face. But on reconnaissance missions such as this one, disguises were necessary.[break][break]

So Zev combed his hair flat and stuffed it beneath a red knit beanie, and he'd grown out a few days' worth of beard to change the landscape of his face. Naturally, he wore casual clothes: a beige jacket, dark jeans, and comfortable sneakers.[break][break]

The hitman sat on the small patio of a coffee shop in Littleroot Town, a local store run by the same family for generations. In one hand, he held a large paper cup of black coffee (no sugar); in the other, a cigarette hung from between two fingers. While he sipped and smoked, he waited for the person he had come to meet, a certain Rocket Beast who had declared Kanto a utopia not a week ago in front of the entire syndicate.[break][break]

Not that Zev had cared, unlike other individuals who'd had no qualms sharing their opinion during the meeting. Kanto under Rocket's rule was fine by him. The truth was, he had flourished there; he'd still be there now if it hadn't been for the League.[break][break]

Finally, bryan delarosa's figure came into view, walking up the street toward the coffee shop. If he was disguised, Zev would recognize him by other characteristics: the way he carried himself, his gait, or subtle lines of his face.[break][break]

Zev waited until the other man was within a reasonable distance before waving him over. Cillian Quinn had arranged the meeting; Delarosa would know to look for Zev.

Normally, he'd be worried about showing his face around here. He grew up here, everyone here knew him, knew OF him. But now that his face changed dramatically he was basically already disguised. He groaned as he walked the streets here, both hands in his pockets, his shoulders hunched over. [break][break]

Soleil, the attack, Eris Halla disrespecting him so openly. However he intended to change that, even with the meteor looming right over them threatening to destroy it all. He spotted the one he was supposed to meet up with. Zev Harcourt he walked over to the one who waved him down and sat down opposite of him. "You the one I'm lookin for?" he asked as Bryan took out his own cigarette and flicked his lighter a couple times to light his own bud.

Zev nodded, looking Delarosa right in the eye. A Rocket Beast. Zev had not had the opportunity to work with one before; he was interested to see what sort of person earned such a position in the organization's rank.[break][break]

"That I am," the hitman confirmed nonchalantly. Whether Delarosa was there willingly or just on Gavin's orders did not matter to him. Work was work, and there was no better person to scout out the town with Zev than a man who had grown up there. And if their conversation could reveal things about Delarosa's personality beyond what little Zev had witnessed during the meeting with Declan Walsh, even better.[break][break]

"Want to get yourself some coffee before we get going?" Zev raised his own half-finished paper cup for emphasis.

Bryan clears his throat. "Nah. I'm good." Coffee barely did anything for him anymore, yeah a short burst of energy. But he'd just crash faster since his body metabolized it that quickly. [break][break]

But it'd also recover faster too, the price wasn't worth the effects. "Unless it's spiked actually." he asked as he'd much prefer the taste of liquor in his cup. But regardless if they did or not, he'd nod "Yeah I'm ready. Let's go. I want to hit up the theater first." he tells Zev, deciding to take the more scenic route of the way there. [break][break]

"So what made you want to scout with me." he asked wondering what this man had to gain from interacting with Bryan.

Zev shook his head, forcing himself to smile at the joke. The result was a crooked half-smile that did not seem to suit his face. "Not spiked, not this time."[break][break]

He stood from the table and followed the other man's lead as they headed toward the theater. Their pace was unhurried, leisurely — the perfect picture of two friends taking a walk around the sleepy town. Zev sipped at his coffee from time to time, not in any rush to finish his drink.[break][break]

"Our mutual friend said you know the place well," he said in answer to Delarosa's question, keeping his voice low enough so as not to draw attention from any locals. Thankfully, there weren't many outside at the time. Still, it was better to speak in vague terms and avoid raising suspicions. "As such, I figured you'd have a good idea of where all the best locations are."[break][break]

For launching a conquest, of course.[break][break]

"I want to hear your ideas. And if we're going to see each other again, I figured I'd get to know you a little. How you like to approach things."[break][break]

Did Delarosa prefer the offense? Defense? Did he specialize in stealth or tactics? Or did he prefer to go all-out as soon as the fighting started? Zev had a hunch that the last part was most likely. He'd read the unlocked files Gavin had forwarded him about Xerneas' Avatar. A man who could not die seemed more likely to throw himself into a fray than exercise any caution.

"I used to rely more on stealth when I was weaker." he said freely sharing his insight on how to tackle problems "But ever since the tree changed my life, I've become more of a be strong and hit stuff kind of guy. If that doesn't work then start to wittle em down with status effects. Fairy types are good at both. You?" [break][break]

The theater began to come into view, it had probably remained closed since the incident with the tree of life and there were league officials guarding it. "Seems like they're keeping people out of there. I wonder why." he says, speaking in a hushed voice to Zev Harcourt

"I tend to be more tactical and methodical with my approach to things. Discover the enemy's weakness and deal a definitive blow that they can't recover from," he replied. "I'd say my preference is Ghost- and Poison-types, but I try to pick the best tool for every job. That includes Pokémon."[break][break]

Zev was waiting until after their scouting mission of Littleroot to make any final decisions on his team. First, he wanted to get a sense of the town's layout, any natural defenses, and any weak points.[break][break]

He spotted the guards in front of Littleroot Theater at the same moment Delarosa pointed them out. Frowning, Zev scanned the exterior of the building — what he could see from their angle, anyway — for any other security measures.[break][break]

"Should we go around the back and see if there's another entrance?" he murmured back.

"Ghosts and Poison types are perfect for that." he says as he could recall that some of the nastiest pokemon he has fought were poison and ghost types respectively.

His smile turns into an incredibly focused looked as he began to stare at the theater. [break][break]

"This is strange." he comments as Zev Harcourt ponders if they should go around back instead. "We can, let's keep moving so we don't look suspicious." he adds as Bryan quickly continues to walk. "The theater used to never be guarded like that, not even when I was first hunting down Xerneas." he shares with Zev. "The league is hiding something there, any ideas?" he asks wondering what zev could possibly think it was. [break][break]

Bryan already had a hunch.

Zev silently agreed with Bryan; maintaining their deception was paramount. He fell into step with the other man to resume their walk, the path leading them to the back of the theater along a leisurely, curving route.[break][break]

"Velmos can't be the only Megalopolan in custody," Zev mused aloud, though he kept his voice low so only Bryan could hear him, even though there were not many passersby on that street. "Is there a chance the League already knows about the energy source?"[break][break]

Considering the presence of guards, it felt like a rhetorical question.[break][break]

The theater building itself stood at the base of a forested hill, a suitable vantage point for overlooking western Littleroot. Thick woods provided ample cover for approaching invaders.

It was a fair thought, the league WOULD keep some of those aliens prisoner just like rocket did. After all, look how useful they were. [break][break]

But he shakes his head no "Nah, they wouldn't keep them here. Not especially after what I did last time I was here." he says idly as he recalls the fire he had created almost a year ago now. [break][break]

"However...they may know about the source of energy already.." he says as he begins to go deeper into thought. This was going to be a problem. "This makes an already difficult situation even more difficult..." [break][break]

"But then again, who doesn't love a challenge? Rocket has thrived under worse conditions." he responds shrugging a bit as they continue to walk through the town casually, making sure the guards don't get suspicious of them.

"True enough," Zev replied without any interest in elaborating on his thoughts. It would behoove them to avoid discussing their organization so openly in public, even though they kept their distance from other people.[break][break]

Delarosa was right, though. Team Rocket had always been the underdog — in Kanto before the war, in Johto when their conquest failed, and now in Hoenn. People caught up in Rocket's activities faced constant challenges. Survival was everything. Eat or be eaten.[break][break]

Zev cast one last look over his shoulder at the theater and its security as he and Delarosa walked away. A dozen imagined scenarios manifested within his mind, each one tackling the guard problem differently, each one with its own advantages and drawbacks. Back at Rocket's headquarters, the men would have to discuss plans — assuming Delarosa would let Zev participate in those conversations. Surely he and the rest of Rocket's administration already had their own ideas for the invasion.[break][break]

"Besides the theater, are there other places we should check out?" Zev asked. Remembering his research, there should also be a machine with a primal crystal in Littleroot. The security in that area was probably even tighter considering its importance.

Zev asked him if there were any spots of interest for the rockets, he pauses as if thinking really hard but not at all. "No, not really. This place has been long forgotten by the league. Which is why i'm surprised they took a sudden interest in the town.." he adds as something feels extremely suspicious. [break][break]

Why now? Why did they protect the theater now? He drops it for now. "Which is why I wanted it for us. We can use all this open space for ourselves." he adds as he reiterates his points he made during the last transfer of power meeting. "We could make farms and housing for the rockets who don't like the sub."

Zev nodded slowly as Delarosa spoke. He could see the other man spoke the truth, from the small size of the town to its sleepy atmosphere. All the moving and the shaking in the region happened elsewhere: Ever Grande, Slateport, Mauville, Mossdeep, Sootopolis. There in the corner of Hoenn, Littleroot might as well be abandoned.[break][break]

Delarosa's insistence on using the area as farmland and housing for Team Rocket took Zev aback. He'd thought the Beast mentioned it during the summit to placate the upset masses; were land and lodgings really his intentions?[break][break]
